Chris Cheyette MSc BSc (Hons) RD

Diabetes Specialist Dietitian

Chris qualified as a dietitian in 2000, and has been working full-time for the NHS ever since. Since 2003, he has been a Diabetes Specialist Dietitian, working with a wide range of people with Type 1, Type 2 and gestational diabetes.

Chris has worked on a number of projects over the years, many with a goal of improving the educational resources that are currently on offer to people with diabetes. These include an educational DVD for young people with diabetes, which earned him the 2007 British Dietetic Association Elizabeth Washington Award and a short-listing for the 2006 Diabetes UK Education Award.

He has also published a number of journal articles relating to diabetes and weight management. He regularly undertakes local and national presentations to health professionals in the field of diabetes and has done a number of television and newspaper interviews.

As well as his NHS duties, Chris is an elected member of the UK Advisory council for Diabetes UK. He is also a committee member of the Dietitians Management & Education Group of the British Dietetic Association.

One of Chris’s main areas of work within the NHS is to teach people how to calculate the amount of carbohydrate in food so they can adjust their insulin accordingly. In his current post, he facilitates on the intensive Type 1 education programme called DAFNE (Dose Adjustment for Normal Eating). It is clear to him that people with diabetes and professionals alike find it difficult to calculate carbohydrate in food, especially when eating out or having a take-away. With this in mind, he is delighted to work with his good friend Yello Balolia to bring this book to publication. Chris hopes it will be a great help to people living with diabetes & health professionals, and that it will make carbohydrate counting easier and more accessible to all ages and abilities.

Yello Balolia BA (Hons)

Photographic Artist

In August 2003, working as a TV Dubbing Mixer, Canada-born, Blackpool-bred Yello bought his first ever camera. He soon proceeded to give up his full-time job in television and turn to a visual-based career.

Having then achieved a 1st Class Honours degree in Photography, he has since undertaken a series of projects including private photographic commissions (www.yellobalolia.com) as well as devising a brand new concept in Wedding Photography (www.theweddingartist.co.uk).

Striving to achieve the best image quality possible, Yello still primarily uses traditional film cameras for all his photographic art projects. He captures, manipulates and prints all the images himself in order to ensure that the end product is the best that it can be.

Working with Chris on Carbs & Cals has given Yello a great opportunity to put all his skills to use in photographing the food, and designing the book pages, front cover, and website. The fact that Yello and Chris have the knowledge and skills to research and produce the entire book from start to finish means that they can make sure that the book is as practical and useful as possible, changing any small detail that they feel will help the reader.
